Dorothy Jewel Otis
Dorothy Jewel Otis, 89 of Quincy passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Maple Lawn in Coldwater. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2018 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Bob Ward of First Baptist Church of Coldwater officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12 p.m. Dorothy was born September 26, 1928 to Roy and Susie (Starks) Barnett in Metropolis, IL. She married the love of her life, J.C. Otis on March 6, 1946 in Washtenaw. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1994. Dorothy was a hardworking woman. She spent 7 years working at the Quincy Diner before taking a position at Acorn where she worked for 36 year before retiring. Dorothy was a woman of faith. She had many interests including playing card and dice games, entertaining her friends, and baking. Dorothy was well known for her cooking, making sure everyone who stopped at the house was well-fed before they could leave. She will be remembered for being a helpful and caring person. Her true joy in life was being around her grandchildren, especially when they needed to be fed. Mrs. Otis is survived by her children Barbara (Walter) Ostrander of Jackson, Freddie (Linda) Otis of Coldwater, Delores (Tom) Miller of Coldwater, Carolyn (Dean) Marsh of Reading, and Judy (Jim Blanton) Sprout of Coldwater; her grandchildren Dennis Ostrander, Denise (Dave) Styx, Frenda (Joey) Norton, Lonna Otis-Pepper, Laura (Dan) Maloney, Wes (Jenny) Miller, Chris (Lorrie) Miller, Karri (J.P.) Bogart, Chad (Angie) Marsh, Shawn (Stephanie) Marsh, Tammy (James) Swihart; Dawn (Randy) Lybarger; 39 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband J.C. Otis; her daughter Catherine Otis; her brother Roy Barnett, Jr.; her grandchildren Dawn (Ostrander) Lybarger, and the Sprout infant twins.
