Billy Ray Laughlin GRIMESLAND - Mr. Billy Ray Laughlin, 87, of Grimesland, NC died Saturday, September 8, 2018. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mr. Laughlin, son of Clara "Young" and Arlington Ray Laughlin, was born in Pierce City, MO. He served in the US Army from 1947-1953 as a Machine Accounting Supervisor stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He received an ACM (Japan) medal, Korean Service medal, and a Good Conduct medal. He was employed with the Kansas City Phone Company where he met his future bride Mary Elizabeth Valenti. He went on to work with IBM for 30 years until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Laughlin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all of those that knew him. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sylvia Hagebusch and Edna Green. His wife, Mary Elizabeth "Valenti" Laughlin, of 64 years preceded him in death in July 2018. He is survived by his 5 children; Laura Lee Green of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Elizabeth "Kay" Laughlin Payne of Chocowinity, NC; Stephen Wayne Laughlin of Derwood, MD; William Bret Laughlin of Rosedale, MD; and Tracey Denise Laughlin of Kearneysville, WVA. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
