In memory of
Benjamin D. "Ben" Davol
Stonington - Benjamin D. Davol, 58, of Stonington, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son to the late Capt. Charles Dean Davol Jr. of Fall River, Mass., and Margaret (Hall) Davol Geraldton, Australia. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Pine Point, Suffield Academy, and Drew University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in political science. Ben spent most of his career in political consulting, notably running campaign efforts for John McCain in Connecticut and New Hampshire in 2000. He was also an avid writer and contributor to The Day and Hartford Courant newspapers, among other periodicals. Hiking, cycling, skiing and cooking were among his favorite hobbies, and as a proud Aussie, his favorite meal consisted of a leg of lamb, asparagus, potatoes, and horseradish paired with his favorite beer, Old Yankee Ale. Ben's accomplishments in life were many, but he was most proud to be Dad to his little girl, Emily Louise Davol "Emmy" of Washington, D.C., and his son, Charles Edmund Davol "the boy" of Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard. In addition to his two children, he is also survived by his former wife, Tricia Crowley, of Washington, D.C.; eight nieces and nephews whom he cherished; the Dawson, Ward, Shelly and Crowley families; paternal cousins, Abigail Test, Debbie Test Rempus and Charles and Sam Test; his maternal family in Australia; and his countless friends. He was predeceased by his uncle and aunt, Doctor Charles "Ned" Test and Sarah "Sally" Test of Westport Harbor, Mass., who died in 2012. He is also predeceased by his beloved dog Rocket, who was his dearest friend and confidant. He will be deeply missed by all, and in Ben's words, he would want us all to "carry on!" A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Calvary Church on Church Street in Stonington. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Smilow Cancer Hospital's Closer to Free Ride, an organization Ben participated in for several years. ( www.rideclosertofree.org )
