Audrey Clark-Jackson
Audrey Clark - Jackson, age 101, of Cheboygan passed away Sunday evening, May 13, 2018. She was surrounded by family and friends throughout the day/evening. She was the daughterof George and Georgianna Gouine. Audrey was born on March 16, 1917. She grew up on the family farm on Lapparrel Rd along with her five siblings. Her sister, Nathalie DiLoreto, age 99, survives her and resides in Hawaii with her daughter andcfamily. Audrey's four brothers Lloyd, Ralph, Clayton and Roland have all preceded hercin death. Audrey married Leslie B. Clark on Aug. 24, 1940. They had three children, George, (Sally Sullivan), Tom (Mary Watson) and Lisa (Roger Rittenhouse.) There are four grandchildren, Josie, Brian, Christina and Jenny. Great grandchildren include Anya, Grace and Keely and great-granddaughter Ada. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and granddogs, Jack, Reesie, Bink, Cashew and Oliver. Throughout her life she enjoyed cats including two named Puella and Willie. Audrey deeply believed in the work of NMARN. Audrey was a wonderful homemaker her entire life and also worked at times as a legal secretary. Upon graduating high school she worked in Lansing for the federal government in the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. She and Les decided to return to Cheboygan after spending a short time in Detroit where Les was teaching at Detroit Tech. Audrey's husband Les preceded her in death in 1984. In the early '90s she got reacquainted with an old classmate and she and James Jackson were married in 1995. They enjoyed summers in Michigan and winters in Florida. James passed in 2006 and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Family and community activities were very important to Audrey. She was a member of the Alter Society in the Catholic church and also Round-a-bouts club. Audrey enjoyed many creative endeavors such as sewing quilts, oil painting and knitting and crocheting. Audrey also greatly enjoyed bridge and cribbage and cards in general. She was an excellent baker and cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Audrey was a friend to all of nature and enjoyed gardening, feeding birds and showed great compassion for all creatures. Audrey will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Audrey's family is grateful for the care and respect she was received from staff while she resided at the Cheboygan Hospice House. Friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 10 a.m. through time of her memorial mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Duane Wachowiak officiating. A luncheon will take place in the church hall following inurnment at Pine Hill Cemetery.
