In memory of
Arthur and Doreen Hames
Arthur and Doreen Hames Aug. 1, 1930 / Feb. 28, 1932 - Aug. 11, 2019 / Jan. 15, 2020 Charles Arthur Hames and Mary Doreen Hames were married for 68 years and passed away a mere four months apart. Arthur passed away Aug. 12, 2019 and Doreen passed away Jan. 15, 2020. Both went by middle names. Arthur often stated he went by his middle name in fear he'd be called "Charlie." Arthur was born in Coos Bay, Ore., in 1930 and grew up in Gold Beach with his sister Marie. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1956 with a Masters of Science degree and served in the U.S. Army. He held several positions in the educational field retiring as Director of Counseling at Clackamas Community College in 1988. Doreen was born in Eugene, Ore., in 1932. She had four siblings: Danny, Noel, Fern and Annette. She attended St. Mary's academy, graduating in 1950. After raising four children she became an award winning real estate agent. Both retired to a beautiful home in Tigard, Ore., where they enjoyed many years of family gatherings and welcoming their grandchildren. Their beautiful yard was Arthur's pride and joy, especially his roses. His family had many family gatherings on their lovely patio. Arthur and Doreen traveled when retired, taking cruises and visiting Europe. In 1988 they traveled to Australia. Arthur's father immigrated from Australia as a young child and Arthur was able to locate several Australian cousins via his internet sleuthing. He met his relatives in Australia and remained in touch for many years. Doreen was most recently a resident of Hearthstone of Beaverton Retirement Center where she made friends and felt safe and well cared for. Her family is very grateful for their care and attention. They are survived by her sister, Annette Ulery of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; four children, Julie Schantz, Darrell Hames and Ann Iverson of Portland and Alex Hames of Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at the Tumwater Ballroom, 211 Tumwater Drive, Oregon City, OR.
