Robert "Bob" Bachand
Robert "Bob" Bachand Enfield, NH — On April 24, 2021, Robert "Bob" Bachand, 89, passed away, surrounded by his loving family. He lived in the Upper Valley all of his life. He graduated from Lebanon High School, then served in the Army during the Korean War. He lived an adventurous life. He and Effie traveled all over the United States and parts of Europe. As a skilled carpenter and woodcraft artist, he was known far and wide for his beautiful handcrafted bowls and intarsia creations. His favorite meal was dessert. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a homemade treat to satisfy his sweet tooth. He also appreciated a good joke. We loved it when he laughed till tears ran down his face. Bob served in the Lions Club for 25 years and received many awards for outstanding service: the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the Granite State Fellowship, and Enfield Lion of the Year. He was also presented with a Lifetime Membership from the Enfield Lions. He was proud to have helped build the Enfield Community Center, which the Lions Club donated to the town. By far, his favorite service project was the Senior Meal Program. Once a month, Bob, Effie, and their loyal group of volunteers would serve home-cooked meals to local senior citizens. They joked that they were often serving people younger than they were. Last year, for demonstrating service on behalf of older citizens, Bob and Effie received the first annual "Older Adult Volunteer Award" from the NH State Commission on Aging. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Effie Bachand. He is also survived by his two daughters and their husbands, whom he thought of as sons; Robin and Richard King of Bennington, NH, and Kathy and Richard Mason of Portsmouth, NH. He loved his family most of all and delighted in his six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerard Bachand, and grandson, Jonathon Mason. The family wishes to extends their deepest thanks to all who cared for Bob at the WRJ, VA; the Lake Sunapee VNA; and Hospice. All were incredibly kind and patient. There will be a private graveside service. Please consider a donation in his name to the Enfield Mascoma Lions Club, P.O. Box 3, Enfield, NH 03748, or a charity of your choosing.
