Martin F. Burke
Martin F. "Mick" Burke, 88, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, June 9, 2021, at Scottdale Manor and Rehab, while being comforted by his loving family. He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Owensdale, the son of the late Michael W. and Annabel Canose Burke. Mick was a longtime and faithful member of the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale. He was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1951. Mick was a retired service man with Columbia Gas Co. with 40 years of service. He was a proud veteran of the Army, serving with Battery "B" 449th, FA (Observer) BN. He was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and attained the rank of corporal. He was a former member of the Scottdale V.F.W. Post No. 7781, Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post No. 446, the Everson Polish American Club and Knights of Columbus. Mick was an honorable and kind man who loved his family and was loved in return. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Florence E. Siecinski Burke, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1962; his two loving sons and daughters-in-law, Michael W. Burke and wife, Lee and Daniel A. Burke and wife, Grace, both of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Dominic D. Burke, of Scottdale, PFC Marteine F. Burke, USMC, of Camp LaJune, N.C., and Michaela R. Burke, of Scottdale; his brother, Ronald Burke and wife, Patricia, of Mt. Pleasant; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Burke and her family, of Scottdale. In addition to his parents, Mick was preceded in death by brothers, William Burke (Oct. 22, 2007), John "Jack" Burke (April 17, 2016) and James "Jim" Burke (April 8, 2012); and sister, Lois Burke Grabiak (Dec. 25, 2018). Family and friends are cordially invited from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday to the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Prayers of transfer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with his funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, with Father Rick Kosisko as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in St. John Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite, by the Honor Guard of the Mt. Pleasant American Legion No. 446. In lieu of customary remembrances, Mick's family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Scottdale Fire Department, P.O. Box 73, Scottdale, PA 15683.
