The journey began on October 12, 1940, when Ollie Turner and Chester Ackers gave birth to their blessing from God, their son, Alton Ackers. On May 28, 2021, Alton Ackers transitioned to his heavenly home. Alton, affectionately accepted Christ at an early age. In September 1953, he was Baptized at King David Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend James Gordon Sr. He later joined the Second Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop J. Nelson Brown. Alton attended and graduated from Cypress Grove High School, in Lutcher, Louisiana. After high school, he attended and graduated from Louisiana Barber College in 1961. Alton entered holy matrimony on November 23, 1968, to his wife of 53 years, Beatrice Baloney Ackers. God blessed them to become the parents of five children the late Cassandra Belton, Connie Ackers, the late Lawrence Jones, Leonard Jones, and Dr. Samantha R. Ackers, J.D. Alton was a dedicated employee of Katz and Besthoff (K&B), Gaudin & Gaudin Law Firm and Imperial Trading Co. He was also the Founder of Ackers Lawn Service. Alton Ackers was known throughout the Metropolitan New Orleans Area for his emaciate Lawn, Garden and Janitorial services. Alton served the community through his business by employing an array of people from all walks of life. Alton was greeted and escorted through the gates of heaven by his grandparents, William and Lorena Russell Turner and maternal grandparents John Ackers and Martha Farlough Ackers Scott, sisters, Lorena Ackers Armont and Yolanda Ackers Carr, his daughter Cassandra Ackers Belton and his son Lawrence Pernell Jones. Alton leaves to cherish fond memories his beautiful wife Beatrice Ackers: two daughters, Dr. Samantha Ackers, J.D. and Connie Ackers; one son, Leonard Jones (Melissa); seven granddaughters, Latonya Jones (Leon), LaDiece Jones Bonds (Robert), Lindsey Jones, Latasha Fredericks, Latonya Fredericks and Lakisha Fredericks; three grandsons, Jourdan Taylor, Lance Jones and Lyle Jones; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Bergeron, Tyrin Jones, Anthony Bonds, Aiden Bonds, Azariah Bonds, Tatum Barnes and Imani Taylor; daughter-in-laws, Anjanette Lemieux Jones, Cadette Jones Hall and Consuella Eugene; sister-in-laws, Rose Harris, Bertha Reed and Ophelia Baloney; three godchildren, Fred Coleman, Kevin Armant and Carlita Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, June 12, 2021, 10:00am, at Second Zion Baptist Church, 6520 Second Zion Ave. Marrero, LA.
