Raymond R. Cowen Jr.
Raymond R. Cowen Jr. passed peacefully into God's kingdom Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. "Absent from the body is to be home with the Lord." The family is eternally grateful to those doctors and nurses at St. Margaret's and Good Samaritan Hospice. Ray was a Christian man, a quiet man, firm in his convictions and he loved children. He was born on Third Ave. in his beloved Arnold. He began working at American St. Gobain in Arnold. He left to join the Air Force with all his buddies, returning and resuming his employment at St. Gobain. He was laid off so often, he became steward at the Sons of Columbus, putting the club in the black for the first time in five years. He then retired from Kensington Manufacturing after 18 years, and went on to work at the Salvation Army for 15 years while also acting as the finance officer and bar manager at the Arnold American Legion. His last working day was April 21, 2021, after nine months of putting $30,000 of debt behind them, enabling them to donate $10,000 to the Arnold Police for new Kevlar vests. Ray was an exceptional dad and a loving husband to his wife, Carrie (Smith) Cowen, of 63 years this August. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Cowen Rizzo, Izetta Cowen Solomon; his brother, Keith Alan Cowen; niece, Gail Solomon; nephew, Nicholas Solomon; and his beloved son, Kevin Carey Cowen, in 2015.
