Charles 'O'Gwynn' Dawson, devoted husband and father, passed away on May 28, 2021. He was 87 years old. O'Gwynn was born on February 9, 1934, in Barnett's Crossroads, Escambia County, Alabama to Charles Edward Dawson and Clara Elmira Dawson. He lived until he graduated from high school and moved to Mobile, Alabama where he worked for McGowin-Lyons Hardware & Supply Co. While living in Mobile, O'Gwynn met the love of his life, Mary Butts, whom he married in May of 1953. O'Gwynn and Mary moved to New Orleans in 1966 when O'Gwynn took a job with JNO Worner and Son, where he worked until he retired in 2005, following Hurricane Katrina. O'Gwynn is survived by his beloved wife Mary B. Dawson, his children, Charles Michael Dawson, Karen Elizabeth Dawson, and David Jerome Dawson (Karen); grandchildren Brian Dawson (Nicole), Lindsay Dawson, Sarah Dawson, James Parker (Meghan), Jamie Gilly (David), Emily Eppolito, Tori Hudspeth (Travis), Ryan, Megan, & Braden Dawson; and great-grandchildren Nolan and Rylee Parker, Makayla Parker, Michael & Madelyn Gilly, and Jeremiah Hudspeth. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Edward O'Neil Dawson, Gerald Dawson, and Douglas Dawson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice are preferred. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, Louisiana, on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 5:00. Visitation will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon. Interment will take place in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00.
