Mary Charlotte Brawley Nov. 14, 1940 - Jan. 17, 2020 Mary Charlotte Brown Brawley, of Portland, Ore., passed away due to natural causes Jan. 17, 2020 at the age of 79. Mary was born Nov. 14, 1940 in Portland, Ore., to Dwight Howard Brown, and Glory Wyckoff, who preceded her in death. Mary grew up in a N.E. Portland home that housed three generations of her family. She graduated from Grant High School and then went on to graduate from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. She was a camp counselor for years where she taught youth to swim and navigate a canoe. Mary was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing many instruments, piano, organ, accordion, guitar, flutes and taught music lessons out of her home. As a young person, Mary played violin and viola in the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. She remained a big supporter and follower of the PYPO throughout her life. Mary was a 40-year member of Recovery Inc. and served as a group leader. This gave her comfort and support. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Dennis Brawley. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Rose City Cemetery. Any donations may be made to the Oregon Humane Society in her honor.
