Bernia, Lauranne 2/23/2021 New Port Richey Lauranne Sands Bernia, 79, passed away February 23, 2021 in New Port Richey, Florida. Laurie was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Huntington Woods. She attended Shrine of the Little Flower Elementary and Shrine High School, in Royal Oak, graduating in 1960. She then attended the University of Detroit Secretarial School, graduating in 1963. Laurie raised her children in Ann Arbor and was employed by University of Michigan as an Administrative Assistant, later becoming a Mary Kay Consultant. She enjoyed retirement at her Summer home in Houghton Lake, Michigan as well as her residence in Florida. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Sands, father, Alfred Sands, and husband, Joseph Bernia. She is survived by her sister, Charlaine (Frank), her children, Richard, Michael (Cynthya), Christine (Jon), and Melissa (Nate), and 10 grandchildren. Laurie (Mima) will be missed, but never forgotten by those who knew and loved her. She will be interred in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. A private celebration of life will be held in June for the family.
