George Farrell Jr.
George R. Farrell Jr., 91, passed away Saturday (April 24, 2021) at his home in Limestone, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family. George was born May 15, 1929, in Bradford, to parents George Sr. and Eva Smith Farrell. He attended Bradford schools and graduated in 1947. He was member of St. Bernard's Church in Bradford. He was a previous member of St. Patrick's Church in Limestone. He served in the Navy Reserves from 1945-1950. He began his career in the meat business at the young age of 15 at Stuart's Market in Bradford, and continued to Loblaws, NuWay in Olean, N.Y., and on to Sugardale as a salesman. In 1968 he opened his own butcher shop, The Western Steer Market, in Limestone, where he retired due to health reasons in 1980. He and his sons continued in the meat business by making sausage and his famous sausage will continue being made for generations. He married Patricia Louise Clark on July 30, 1949, and together had four children: David (Michelle Vogel) Farrell, Mark Farrell, Renee Farrell Bryant, and Sandy Farrell Tully. He and his brother John "Jack" Farrell built the family camp on Chapel Fork Road. The camp remains in the family's ownership still, and many, many good times have been spent there with family and friends. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, George joined the Limestone Sportsman Club in 1967. He was proud to be a life member of the LSC and served up many a meal as part of their fundraising efforts. He was predeceased by his parents, a young sister Geraldine, his brother John "Jack," an infant granddaughter Heather Kay and his wife of 56 years Patricia. His 4 children survive along with 7 grandchildren: Breanne (Randy) Abbott, Hilery (Brendon) Fox, Chace (Anna) Farrell, Kelsie Griesbaum, Ryan Farrell, Brandon (Sierra) Tully and Travis Bryant. He also has 10 great grandchildren: Kaleigh, Jackson, Kexlee, Kenndon, Lena, Sagan, Karrison, Rayna, Mora and Eliot. He also is survived by his nephew Tom (Sharon) Farrell and nieces Karen Getz, Kath (Kirk) Osgood and Kris (Marty) Sapko, as well as extended family members and friends. The family wishes for any donations to be made to the Limestone Sportsman Club PO Box 278 Limestone NY. 14753. There will be no visitation or service at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
