In memory of
David J. Breyo
David J. Breyo Canandaigua - David J. Breyo, age 74, passed away peacefully at home overlooking Canandaigua Lake, on Saturday, April 17, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his adored wife, Ilona Espanol; two children, Jason (Ginger) Breyo and Carrie (Patrick) Casto; four grandchildren, Harrison and Grant Breyo, Desmond and Ava Casto; three siblings, Robert Breyo, Joan (Chris) Saleem and Cecelia Brisson; sister-in-law, Neysa (Steve) Malone; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Pat Breyo. David was born in Gloversville, NY and was the son of Stephen and Caroline (Wojtowecz) Breyo. He graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1964, where he was #2 in the state for wrestling. David graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1968 and then moved to Canandaigua, where he started his long career as a math teacher at Canandaigua Junior Academy. He later earned his master's degree in teaching from SUNY Brockport. David was actively involved in the teacher's association and Canandaigua sports as a long time wrestling, football, and baseball coach. His love for baseball came from his father who instilled a strong and stoic personality and work ethic. Spring was always his favorite season because it's baseball season, as he followed the Mets throughout his life. In 1999, David married the love of his life Ilona, in Key West. They enjoyed traveling to Key West, Puerto Rico and to visit family in Atlanta and San Francisco. In retirement, due to his love for woodworking, David spent much of his time refurbishing old Chris Craft wood boats and loved being on the lake with his wife and family. He enjoyed following his grandchildren's school and sporting events. David loved being with his friends and family, playing euchre and tennis. He always saw the good in everything, and we will always remember that no matter what, "it'll be fine". A celebration of David's life will be held Saturday, from 1-3 pm, at Canandaigua Country Club, 1 Fallbrook Park, Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org/ . Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com .
