Betty Louise (Ralicki) Higgins
Betty Louise (Ralicki) Higgins Totowa - Betty Louise (Ralicki) Higgins, a resident of the St. Joseph's Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged in Totowa, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021. She was met by angels who brought her home to her Lord. Betty grew up on Hillman Drive in East Paterson, now Elmwood Park, NJ. She attended St, Leo's grammar school and graduated from Pope Pius XII High School in 1949 with her dear lifelong childhood friends from grammar school, Jean (Lobue) Zepieri, Marion (Carlino) LoDico and Joan (Aloia) Reive. She was married to John (Jack) Higgins who also lived on Hillman drive and attended the same schools. Betty raised her eight children on Fifth Street in Saddle Brook and then on Paxton Street in South Paterson. Betty was the unofficial "nurse " for the neighborhood. She later moved to Ogdensburg where she resided until illness necessitated long term care. Betty was a strong woman who faced many challenges throughout her life but always made her family her loving priority. Betty loved the art of Monet. Rembrandt, and Thomas Kinkaid. She dabbled in arts and crafts and loved the music of Johnny Mathis. and Air Supply, She had a passion for healthy living and was an avid listener of health and political shows on her transistor radio. She worked hard to become a Weight Watchers Lecturer while her children were young. She worked as a loving caregiver at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Paterson and Totowa for eighteen years. She had a third career working in NJ Auto Underwriting at State Farm Insurance in Wayne and Parsippany for twenty years and met her dedicated and loving friend Helen Gunning. Betty gave back to her community as a Cub Scout Leader, volunteering at her children's school, and helped run the Bingo program at the Paterson Boys and Girls Club for many years. Her favorite place to be was the beach in Manasquan with her family and she was happiest when eating oysters. Betty always left people with a feeling of peace and her beautiful smile. It was often said that she was an angel. Betty is survived by her sister Barbara Bonsignore (Ted) and her brother Robert Ralicki (MaryLou.) her sister-in-law Diana Ralicki and her brother-in-law Ted Bonsignore). Her children are Jack Higgins (Kerri), Michael Higgins, Christine Carafello (Greg), Steven Higgins (Lisa), Kelley Nelson (Kurt), Maria Block (Rob) Thaddeus Jude Higgins, Sandra Sleeper (Lloyd). She has twenty beautiful grandchildren who she was dedicated to and brought her immense joy. They are TJ, Courtney, and Calleigh (Higgins) Gregory, Juliet, Paul and Rachel (Carafello), Ryan, Allison and Erin (Higgins), Liam, Seamus and Reilly (Nelson) , Timothy and Natalie (Higgins), Jake, Luke, Mark, and Johnny (Bohn) and Sam (Sleeper). Her beautiful great grandchildren are Margaret, Jackson, and Conor. Her nieces and nephews are Bob and Jean (Ralicki), John and Stacy (Ralicki) and Craig and Kyle (Bonsignore) Passed on before her are her parents Helen and Steve Ralicki, and her brothers John Ralicki and Richard Ralicki. Visitation will be Thursday, April 15, from four to seven o'clock at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church on Miller Road in Kinnelon, NJ. Funeral Mass will also be at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church on Friday, April 15 at ten 'o'clock, Funeral Services are being handled by Scanlan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, her wish was for charitable donations to St, Jude Children's Hospital or St. Joseph's Little Sisters of the Poor Home for The Aged in Totowa, NJ.
