In memory of
Patrick James Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald, Patrick James grew up in Richfield, MN where his lifetime passion for people and athletics was born. The son of Olympic Speed Skater, Robert Fitzgerald, Pat was an accomplished speed skater himself and also excelled on the baseball field as a member of the 1966 State Championship Baseball team at Benilde HS. While at the University of Minnesota, Pat won a talent show that launched him into his career as the Frontman of Teen King and the Princes. Touring the Midwest, Teen King entertained audiences for decades with live rock 'n roll music from the 50s and 60s. His true life calling was discovered as he became a father to his two beloved sons. He never missed a single at-bat, shift, or play and was the proud supporter, critic, and coach of his kids for their entire lives, on and off the field. He was extremely proud of his Edina Hornets and was a fixture at Braemar for the past 40 years. He often said that the greatest part of being a parent was becoming a grandparent. His 7 grandchildren were the joy of his life, and he passionately followed and loved them with an unmatched vigor and intensity. Pat and is wife, Letty, of 45 years, were a great team as friends, parents, and grandparents and built a family who truly love each other. Pat was real, inclusive, intense, funny, humble, deliberate, empathetic, long suffering, and prayerful. He always knew the score, stats, and standings - Never forgot a date, anniversary, phone number, or song lyric. He had four career hole-in-ones, drank black coffee in 100 degree heat, and never met an umpire he trusted. He could turn a two minute call into a two hour debate and read every email he ever received. Very few people have ever enjoyed a win more than Pat and very few have ever taken a loss as hard. He was intensely present with everyone and rarely shy of sharing his opinion. He cherished his time in Eucharistic Adoration at OLG, loved the Lord, and touched the lives of everyone in his enormous circle of friends. Pat was preceded in death by his Mother, Pauline; Father, Robert; Brother, Michael. He is survived by his Wife, Letty; Sons, Dan (Kelly. Children - Will, Max, Ben) and Peter (Megan. Children - Jack, Mae, June, Rose); Sisters, Susan Wernli (Donny) and Kathy Fitzgerald. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina, MN on Wednesday, April 7th at 11am with visitation at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House or your charity of choice. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
