Janice Elizabeth Savage
Savage, Janice Elizabeth, 86, of Golden Valley died on March 20, 2021 from a stroke. He parents, brother, and nephew preceded her in death. "Jan" taught elementary school for over 30 years in hopkins. Upon retirement, she and her beloved husband Jerry visited lighthouses across the US and traveled through Europe to meet relatives, make friends, conduct research, and explore. Jan and Jerry along with Paul Sternberg, Fred Burke, and Ruth Mamenge, co-founded the Pommern Regional Group which welcomed friends interested in genealogy and the recipes of their ancestors. Their meticulous research and extensive travel provided Jan, Jerry, and Paul with ample information to fill the books they joyfully co-authored. Jan was a wonderful teacher, colleague, and friend. Jan also never met a cat who didn't love her. Survived by loving husband Jerry, devoted sister Nyla Crain, niece Carin Crain (john Gianola); nephews, Glen McDaniel and Steven Crain; and great nephews and nieces, Glen Charles Jones and Susanna, Caroline, Thomas, and William Gianola. Her family will treasure the books she wrote which documented the personal histories of their German ancestors. Visitation Thursday, March 25th from 5-7PM at Washburn-McReavy Edina chapel, masks and social distancing required. Funeral service Friday, March 26th at 11:00AM with visitation half hour prior, at Zion Lutheran Church, 241 5th Ave N., Hopkins; and interment at Zumbrota Cemetery, following the service at 2:00PM. Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran or your local humane society.
