age 78, of Aurora, Ohio passed away on April 6, 2021. He grew up outside of Pittsburgh and attended college at Western Reserve University. He earned his doctorate in education from Teacher's College at Columbia University and his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. James devoted his life to education and he spent more than 40 years as a teacher and school administrator. He was a teacher and administrator for Mentor Schools from 1968 to 1988. He served as superintendent of schools for Aurora from 1988 to 1998 and he was the superintendent of Westlake City Schools from 1998 to 2007. He also served as interim superintendent at South Euclid City and Wickliffe Schools before he retired in 2010. James was passionate about public education and he tried to create a culture of excellence within the school districts he led. He was married to Patricia for 53 years and they have 2 children. In retirement he spent time traveling overseas but his most treasured activity was visiting with his 8 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seeds of Literacy ( seedsofliteracy.org ).
