Dr. Walter Richard "Walt" Kirsch
Dr. Walter 'Walt' Richard Kirsch Oct. 24, 1927 - March 31, 2021 Walt Kirsch passed away March 31, 2021 at the age of 93. He was the youngest of four children, Don, Helen, and Jim born to James Gustav Kirsch and Rachel Helser. He grew up in N.E. Portland, graduating from Jefferson HS. After that he went to U of O on a four year baseball scholarship where his brother Don was coach. He was selected to be on the All Star Team three years as Top Second Baseman for the Northern Div. He was a member of the Phi Delt Fraternity. Freshman year college he met Mary Joy Ham in typing class and five years later they got married. Both graduated with a business degree. When the Korean War broke out Walt joined the 403rd Troop Carrier Wing, a reserve unit based at the Portland Military Airbase. He then went back school at PSU and the OHSU School of Dentistry graduating in 1958. Eventually he and Dr. Ron Wismer built their own dental offices in Beaverton. He owned a cabin at Lake Merwin from 1971 to 1999. Many friends, parties and good fishing there for the whole family. Walt and Joy spent their final years at Hearthstone at Murrayhill. Walt made many friends there and he was very well cared for in his final years. As Walt's memory faded, his songs remained with him until the end. Walt is survived by his daughters, Nancy Kirsch and Laurie Quirk; grandson, Adam Nelson; and two great-granddaughters. Please sign the online guest book at www.oregonlive.com/obits
