Michele Angela Meeker was born September 7, 1946 in Austin, Texas to Charles and Cleo Meeker. The Meeker family moved to Waco where Michele grew up along with her brothers, John, Glen and Mike. It was in Waco where Michele met her husband, Reid Rector, and they became high school sweethearts at Richfield High School. Upon graduation from high school, Michele attended Abilene Christian College where she obtained an elementary education degree. She taught elementary age students in Austin, Lubbock, Irving and Fort Worth. Easily the most rewarding teaching experience was a program called Reading Recovery, a program in which teachers worked one on one with children who were experiencing problems with their reading skills. Michele loved that program and the children with whom she worked. Michele and Reid were married in 1969 and were blessed with two wonderful children, a son, Ragan, born in Lubbock in 1973 and a daughter, Jordan, born in Irving in 1976. Michele was a devoted mother serving in a number of capacities in the PTA's at the Irving schools where Ragan and Jordan attended. In addition, she served in leadership roles within Bible Study Fellowship, a nondenominational bible study program based in San Antonio. At the time of her death, Michele and Reid lived in Fort Worth and attended Christ Chapel Bible Church where Michele had been active in the Women in the Word bible study ministry serving as a table discussion leader and in her "Mom's Group", a group of friends who met to study God's word and fellowship together. She loved those ladies and relished their times together. Michele is survived by her husband, Reid; son, Ragan Rector and his wife, Angela; daughter, Jordan Hardt and her husband, Lorry and their children, Duncan Wortsmith, Evan Wortsmith, Savannah Hardt and Caroline Hardt; her brother, John Meeker and his wife, Kitty, of Edina, Minnesota and their adult children Chris Meeker, Margaret Bjork, Charles Meeker and Ned Meeker; her brothers, Glen Meeker of Fort Worth and Mike Meeker and his wife, Tina, of San Antonio; and her brother-in-law, Carey Rector and his wife, Carolyn, of Fort Worth and their adult children, Dwight Rector and Susan Cramer.
