He was born in Guntershausen, Germany on January 9th, 1932, and immigrated to America on what he liked to call "the banana boat" in 1951. After his honorable discharge, he married Anne in 1962 and raised their children, Linda and Peter, in Hawthorne, New York. The family moved to Bayfield in 1976, where Al built their family home and worked as a master cabinet maker, and later as a La Plata county building inspector. Al and Anne were happily married for 59 years. He is survived by his wife Anne, sister-in-law Ruth (husband Herb) Grommeck, his children Linda (husband Chris) Stephens, and Peter (wife Lynne) Rudolph, and his beloved grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathan, and Jacob Rudolph, and Jane and Ella Stephens. His siblings, Helwig Rudolph and Helga Brietschwerst, reside in Germany. A service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Bayfield, at 10:00 am on April 7th, 2021, followed by a memorial service at Pine River Cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to the Rudolph residence following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al's name to the Visiting Angels Foundation.
