In memory of
Mary LaRue Finney
LaRue Finney peacefully passed away at the age of 85 in her Tustin home of 46 years surrounded by her family. She was born on March 3, 1936, to David B. Whaley and Lila Mae Whaley. She grew up in Junction City, Kansas, where she graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1954. She met David Finney, a soldier stationed at Fort Riley, and they were married in 1955. David and LaRue had five sons: Michael, Patrick, Douglas, Matthew, and Bradley. She lovingly raised her boys with David while his career in law enforcement took them all over the country. They landed in Tustin, in 1975, where they put down roots. LaRue was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where she enjoyed participating in several groups with her friends. When her children were grown she went to work as a secretary with an electronics consulting company. In her spare time she enjoyed travel and shopping for antiques. LaRue was especially proud of her collection of 190 antique spools and bobbins from old textile mills which won her multiple awards at the Orange County Fair. She is survived by her sons and three grandchildren. Her husband David often said that LaRue had an uncanny knack for putting people at ease; she could meet a stranger and five minutes later they would be telling her their life story. That is how LaRue will be remembered, as a loving, nurturing person with a positive, friendly attitude. LaRue's funeral will be held at St. Cecilia Church in Tustin, CA, at 10:30am on April 6, 2021.
