Jean Ann Brinkley Robertson Retired school nurse and educator, of Rahway; 88 Jean Ann Brinkley Robertson 88 of Rahway, NJ departed this life on March 27, 2021. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Jean graduated from the Elizabeth Public School System. Futhering her education, she attended Harlem Hospital Center - School of Nursing where she earned a nursing degree. She also attended Seton Hall University and New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State) where she received an BA in education. She received a MA in education from Kean University. Graduating 2nd in her class from Harlem hospital, she started as a visiting nurse in Newark, NJ and continued to work as a nurse at Elizabeth General and Alexian Brothers hospitals. Leaving nursing, in 1967 she went into education. As a health education teacher, a guidance counselor, and school nurse. After 27 years she retired from the public school system but continued working part-time as a Certified Nurse's Aide (CNA) Instructor/evaluator for the NJ State Dept. of Senior Services. When African Americans were not allowed to join the National Nurses Association, she was one of the founding members of the first Black nursing sorority, Chi Eta Phi. Mrs. Robertson was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Life member of the NAACP - Rahway chapter, Life member of National Council of Negro Woman (NCNW), Charter member of the Rahway Glad Red Hatters; Active member of Medical Reserve Corp of Union County (MRC); Active member of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT); Member of Alumni Association Harlem Hospital Center - School of Nursing and the NJ Education Association (NJEA) . Mrs. Robertson was predeceased by her parents James and Alice Brinkley and her husband Edward J. Robertson Sr. Leaving to cherish loving and lasting memories are her beloved children Ellen Carol, Edward James, Jr. and Nancy; her grandsons, Brent and Benjamin; her two sisters, Mary Brinkley and Madeline Brown-Paris; her brother John David Brinkley; her grand-daughter in-law Hannah Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sorority sisters, church family and friends.
