Davenport, Charles William, M.D. 11/27/1935 - 3/23/2021 Ann Arbor, Michigan Davenport, Charles William, M.D. was born on November 27th (Thanksgiving day) 1935, the second son of Beatrice (Warmbier) and Edwin Davenport. He attended school in Wyandotte, graduating from Roosevelt High School in January 1954. Charles attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated in June 1957 with a major in psychology honors. From there he matriculated at the University of Michigan Medical School from which he received his M.D. degree in 1961. Following was an internship at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Charles returned to Ann Arbor to complete a residency and fellowship in adult, child, and adolescence psychiatry, with board certification in both neurology and psychiatry respectively. He practiced child psychiatry at the University of Michigan Facilities and part time in clinical practice until July 1976, where he was recruited to develop a child psychiatry program at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. There, Charles supervised and planned the building of a child/adolescent hospital, serving Northwest Ohio. The program for fellowship/teaching students, residents, and fellows flourished and he served as the director until retirement in 1997. He served as an emeritus professor and consultant to resident/fellow education for several years. During his career, he was a member of several medical professional societies, including APA, ACAP, and Professors of Child Psychiatry. He served on numerous school committees and consulted to the County and State at Maumee County Youth Center. Dr. Davenport authored numerous articles on aspects of psychiatry for scholastic and professional publication. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Beatrice; his first wife, Mary K. Davenport, brother, John "Jack" Davenport; and daughter, Sheri Hamann. Chuck was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathleen Davenport, M.D.; daughter, Karen Davenport, M.D.; son-in-law, Joseph (Sheri) Hamann; grandchildren, Angela and Abigail Hamann, and Emily and Sean Davenport; as well as many other family members and friends. Visitation hours will be held on March 28, 2021 at Nie Family Funeral Homes Carpenter Road from 12-3pm. Covid-19 Guidelines apply. A private family service will be held on March 29, 2021 at 12pm. While the services will be private for the family only to attend in person, it will be available for viewing online via facebook live streaming. Burial to follow will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery.
