Phyllis Lee Amble
Amble, Phyllis Lee 6/28/1931 - 3/22/2021 Ann Arbor, Michigan Phyllis Lee (Kelso) Amble, aged 89, of Ann Arbor, passed away March 22, at home. Born June 28th, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she grew up in Midland, Michigan. Losing her parents at a young age, Phyllis was raised by a team of uncles, aunts, and sisters. A graduate of Midland High School in 1949, she attended Michigan State College, and then moved to Ann Arbor in 1953 to work at the University of Michigan. While at the University's Willow Run Labs, she found her life–long partner in all things fun – Henry – and they married in 1954. A caring woman of strong will, determination, and adventure, she was the rock of the family: she never missed track & cross country meets, swim meets, or band and orchestra concerts; and was a devoted fan of her beloved Wolverines and season ticket holder for both football and basketball (her first date with Henry was a Michigan hockey game); and spent years traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Hawaii, and to Norway, Great Britain, Chile, Argentina, and Antarctica. Most of all, Phyllis was a great wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, determined to live her life her way. We will miss her Christmas cookies, knitting advice, and watching Jeopardy together (where she rarely answered a question incorrectly!). She was predeceased by her husband Henry, parents Walter and Luella, sisters Shirley and Eleanor, aunts Helen and Marion Dudd, uncles Karl and Harvey Dudd, and two loyal English Springer Spaniels, Nellie and Murphy. In addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Phyllis is survived by four loving children – Karla Palmer (Steve), Laura Amble (Bill Novak), Robin Miesel (Victor), and David (Chelo Picardal). She was the adored Mormor to six grandchildren: Henry and Calvin Palmer; Susanna, Kristina, and Gabriella Miesel; and Jakob Amble. Memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Rd, Ann Arbor, 48105, or the National Wildlife Federation ( www.nwf.org/ ). A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held in Ann Arbor, with details still to be arranged. Arrangements entrusted to the Muehlig Funeral Chapel Ann Arbor. Please visit the funeral chapel website for future updates and to leave the family fond memories or condolences. www.muehligannarbor.com
