Rev. Dr. Grace Agee McWhorter
Rev. Dr. Grace Agee McWhorter was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. The Whistler, AL native was the youngest of 12 children born to Rev. Joe and Mother Carrie Agee. She graduated from Tuskegee Institute (University) and earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in both Horticulture and Plant & Soil Sciences. She went on to receive dual Doctorate Degrees in Botany and Plant Pathology at the University of Florida. Dr. McWhorter also holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University. She received many awards and was one of the first to receive the Florida Board of Regents Minority Fellowship Award. She served as Staff Chaplain at Children's of Alabama Hospital. She was the first African American of a prestigious class of women at the University of Florida to receive the Women of Excellence and Achievement Award. Dr. McWhorter was a faculty member of the University of Missouri; Jacksonville State University; Talladega College; University of Texas; Florida A&M University; University of Alabama at Birmingham; Montevallo University; and retired from Lawson State Community College. She was the leader of "The Daughters of Zion," Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and an Archousa with the Beta Kappa Boule'. Dr. McWhorter is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, George Ralph McWhorter, M.D.; daughters Kenya A. Maxey and Lia N. McWhorter; granddaughters Noraa Grace Maxey and Elizabeth JoAnn Maxey. Public viewing Wednesday, March 10th, 1-5 p.m. CST. Services will be held on Thursday, March 11th, 11:00 a.m., Church of God in Christ State Headquarters, 5233 Bessemer Super Highway, Brighton, AL. Burial at Alabama National Cemetery, Friday, March 12th, 1:15 p.m. Face Masks and Social Distancing Required. Arrington Funeral Home Directing.
