Benedicto Del Rio "Benny" "Pops"
Benedicto "Benny" Del Rio "Pops" Oxnard - Benedicto "Benny" Del Rio Aka "Pops" to many people, passed away February 25th, 2021 at St. John's Hospital in Oxnard, CA. Benny was born November 21, 1945 in Sayula, Jalisco Mexico to Francisco Del Rio and Luisa Aguilar Del Rio. At age 12 he moved to Ventura, CA with his mother Luisa, sisters Rosa Barajas, Amparo Del Rio, Maria De Jesus Del Rio, and brother Ruben Del Rio. He attended Ventura High School was in the high school band, played the saxophone and participated in numerous parades. He graduated in 1965. Soon after he graduated high school, he was drafted into the US Army, and served in Vietnam for 2 years. He was a very proud Veteran. After he served his time in the military, he met Guillerma Gaona and married and had 4 children Benny, Joseph, Jeffrey, and Joann. To say Pops had a great passion for Lowriding was an understatement. This great man lived for lowriding. He was a lowrider since the late 60's up until his last days. He was a member of the "Oldies Car Club" Ventura chapter for many years. He proudly owned a 1948 Fleetline and a 1968 Impala. Pops loved the lowrider lifestyle and the lowrider community, and was so influential that all 3 of his sons followed in his footsteps. He was a devout catholic loved God first, his family and friends more than anything in the world. He was devoted to his wife, and took care of her up until her last days. He went to church every Sunday to give his thanks to God for all his blessings. He had great work ethic, was honest, had the best personality, loved to take pictures, loved music (especially his oldies) was creative, always kept himself busy, and loved to tell you stories about the good old days. Pops is survived by his brother Ruben Del Rio, and Sister Maria De Jesus Del Rio, sons Benny Jr. (Christina), Joseph (Leah), Jeffrey, and daughter Joann, grandchildren, Joey (Sarah), Joseph Jr, Isaac, Jocelyn, Elyzhua, Nickolas, Korine, Piet, Eric, Angel, Steven, Frank, Aaliyah, great grandson Jonathan and numerous nieces and nephews. Pops we love you, we miss you, and will forever keep your memory and legacy alive. Our hearts are broken now that you are gone, but we know you are at peace with the Lord God, and reunited with Mom and the rest of your loved ones in heaven. "Who wants a shot?" Funeral Services will be held Monday 3/15/21 at the Santa Clara Church-323 S E ST, Oxnard, CA 93030 at 10AM, check in time is 9:15 AM. You must register online at Santaclaraparish.org , there are only 140 seats available unfortunately. Following the services, we will be cruising Pops to the Ivy Lawn Cemetery located 5400 Valentine RD, Ventura. (If you are not able to attend the church service and want to join his cruise to the cemetery, we will be leaving the church at approximately 11:00 AM Benny has been entrusted to the care of the family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home, www.reardonfh.com .
