James W. Hills, 76 Worked for N.Y. Telephone, talented craftsman and builder James W. Hills, 76, beloved father, brother, uncle and friend passed away on February 2, 2021. A native Staten Islander born to the late James and Rose Hills, he was raised in Charleston. In addition to a career at NY Telephone and a race car mechanic, most knew him as a talented craftsman and builder who impacted many families on Staten Island. Jim valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War, and supported numerous veterans' organizations throughout his life. A lifelong member of the VFW, he enjoyed the company at SSG Michael Ollis VFW Post No. 9587. Jim is survived by his son Brian Hills (wife Andrea), sister Carole Hassell (husband Alan), brother Robert and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. At a later date, a celebration of life will be planned in Staten Island, as well as an appropriate service with military honors.
