Stanley John Jurek July 27, 1926 - Feb. 24, 2021 SOUTH BEND, IN - Stanley Jurek, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Memorial Hospital. Stanley was born July 27, 1926 in South Bend to the late Stanley and Theodora (Zawodny) Jurek. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, John & Gene Jurek; sisters, Pat Palkowski, Evelyn Antonowicz, Trudy Hoffman, & Cecilia Kish; and son-in-law, Fred Kominowski. Left to cherish the memory of Stanley is his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia (Romanowski) Jurek; their children, Debra Kominowski and Ray (Fran) Jurek; grandchildren, Matthew (Victoria) Jurek, Laura (Jon) Merchant, Alysia Kominowski, Chester (Erin) Kominowski, Clinton (Paige) Kominowski, and Clarice (Kevin) Kashuba; great-grandchildren, Mikaela Merchant, Imogene & Dean Jurek, Bradynn Hamman, Finnick Kominowski, Emmalin & Gracie Kashuba; and sister, Barb (Roland Sheneman) Jagmin. Stanley honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a current member, former Vice Commander and 3x Commander of the American Legion Post 357, Grand Marshal of the West Side Parade, and a lifetime member of 40 & 8. He received the Hero Award in 2020 for his years in the military and with the American Legion, and Veteran of the Day Award. Stanley worked for Superior Piece Parts until retiring in 1986. He enjoyed building puzzles of all sizes. Stanley was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame sports fan. He ushered for many Notre Dame sporting events, his favorites being football and basketball. Stanley loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Family gatherings and cookouts brought him much joy, always making his delicious polish sausage. Visitation will be 2:00pm to 8:00pm with a Military Honor service at 6:00pm on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, March 1, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to assist with funeral services.
