In memory of
Bob Gelman
GELMAN - Bob (Bernard) passed away on January 25, 2021, of COVID-19. Bob was born in 1932 in Brooklyn. Graduating from Brooklyn College with a teaching degree, Bob taught 5th grade in the Long Island districts of Lindenhurst and Great Neck. He enjoyed warm relations with his students and families alike. Bob was an avid skier in winter and a golfer in every other season. He spent many summer afternoons at Jones Beach with a radio by his side, listening to the Yankees games or to classical music on WQXR. He married the love of his life Janet Wilderman in 2000, and together they attended Broadway shows and concerts at Lincoln Center. Bob and Janet traveled regularly to Carolina Beach, NC where they owned a condominium. Sadly, Janet lost her battle to COVID-19 just 3 weeks after Bob did. Bob was a person who embraced life fully. He was a sweet, funny guy who will be missed by all who knew him.
