Dr. Jeffrey L. Cheever March 29, 1955 - Jan. 15, 2021 Dr. Jeffrey L. Cheever, age 65, passed away peacefully at home Jan. 15, 2021, after a long battle with MS. He was in the loving presence of his wife, Monita and his trusty dog, Beau. Jeff was born March 29, 1955 in Eugene, Ore., the son of Elmer L. Cheever and Shirley Marie Cheever, of Springfield, Ore. He is survived by his spouse, of 38 years, Monita Lou Hantze-Cheever; and his sister, Jodi M. Cheever, of Portland, Ore. Jeff graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University – School of Dentistry class of 1982. Upon graduation, Jeff was recruited by the Canadian Government to provide dental treatment in the isolated northern communities. After seven years of service, dual citizenship was granted to Jeff by the Canadian Government. Never one to let MS symptoms slow him down, he became a Taoist Tai Chi Health Recovery instructor, teaching people to make the best of what they could, within their abilities. Always an avid outdoorsman, he started as a backpacker and fly-fisherman, and then reinvented himself, within the boundaries imposed by MS. He became a nature photographer, using an electric scooter and tripod to capture his award-winning photos. Jeff's special interest was in Peregrine Falcons, and Kingfishers. Not the easiest birds to capture on film, but a challenge that Jeff rose to. You can view the beauty of these amazing creatures, and much more, through Jeff's eyes, in this online gallery: https://gurushots.com/dr.jeffrey.l.cheever1/photos One of his greatest personal triumphs, was climbing to the top of Mary's Peak in his scooter. Dr. Cheever was a wonderful husband, a good friend, a good man, and a role model for how to respond to the challenges that life can bring. He will be missed by so many.
