Strand, Dorothy 8/1/1919 - 1/22/2021 Ann Arbor Dorothy Hood Strand, 101, died January 22, 2021, in her daughter's home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her daughter Mary Danforth and son-in-law Jim Danforth were with her when she died. Dorothy was born on August 1, 1919, in Flint, Michigan to Sidney and Linnie Hood. She lived her childhood years in various cities in southeastern Michigan. She received a Bachelor's degree in Literature, Science and Art from the University of Michigan in 1941 and worked for a short time as a teacher of French Language and English Literature at Beecher High School in Mt. Morris, Michigan. On December 29, 1941, she married John Strand. They lived most of their lives together in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dorothy worked as a secretary at the University of Michigan in the Humanities Department and later in the Population Studies Center. She retired from the University in 1984. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Mary (Strand) and Jim Danforth, Katie (Strand) and Gary Evans, Ellen Strand and Dennis Regan, Richard Strand and Mary Lynn (Snyder); six grandchildren: Eric Preston, Jennifer McCue, Michael Hitchcock, Scott Hitchcock, John Holkeboer and Maja Fontichiaro; and ten great-grandchildren: Steven, Scott, Maxine, Haylie, Chloe, Kaes, Corinne, Anders, Aurora, and Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband John Strand and her sisters, Edith Louise (Lou) Pemberton and Mildred Kathleen (Kay) Johnson, preceded her in death.
