Julian Travis Rose passed away peacefully on February 18, 2021 at the age of 91. He had such a zest for life as described by his favorite song, What a Wonderful World. He will truly be missed. He was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on August 30, 1929. He was the son of Hubert Royster and Alice Catledge Rose and was the 2nd child of seven. He is predeceased by his five brothers; his wife, Louise York Rose; son, Larry Douglas Rose; and grandson, Zachary Barrett Rose. He is survived by his son, Edwin Travis (Julie); two daughters, Susan Rose Shugart (Bill) and Janet Rose Swart (Jack); sister, Martha Ann Rose Watson; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Travis was founder and owner of Rose Brothers Furniture, established in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1953. He was a lifelong member of The First Christian Church, numerous Civic Clubs, and Social Clubs. Travis graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1947 and joined the United States Navy. After his service he moved to Jacksonville and started his company. Travis had a passion for people, for selling furniture, music, dancing, boating, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He loved the water, especially Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina at Sea Path Towers and Marina, where he made his home for the last 20 years. The family would like to thank the community and the many employees of Rose Brothers Furniture for their dedication and their friendship over the years. Also, many thanks to the caregivers, his personal Doctors, Nurses, and the staff at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23 at Onslow Memorial Park. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask during the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 597, 100 McCain Lane, Swansboro, NC 28584. Electronic condolences may be left for the family at www.jonesfh.org.
