In memory of
Vito Roca
Vito Roca, 87 Devoted family man with a knack for growing lemon trees Vito Roca of Staten Island, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 under the compassionate care of Stamford Hospital with his loving family at his side. Vito was born on October 30th, 1933 in Mola di Bari, Italy to Domenico and Caterina. There he grew up on a small farm near the Adriatic Sea. At the age of 16, Vito immigrated alone to Brooklyn, NY. He started working in a bakery, learning a craft he enjoyed for years to come. He married the love of his life, Florence DelRe, in 1959. To provide for his family, Vito worked as a longshoreman during the day and continued working in the bakery at night. He loved gardening, and his exceptional green thumb was best exemplified by his ability to successfully maintain a fruit bearing lemon tree in the inappropriate climate of Staten Island. Vito was also an avid sports fan, and he rarely missed a NY Ranger game. His greatest attributes were his warmth, good nature, hospitality, and kindness. Vito always greeted you with a smile and offered you a drink. Vito will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Florence; his children, Dr. Dominic Roca, John Roca, Catherine DiMartino; their respective spouses, Dr. Karen Santucci, Anna Roca, Peter DiMartino; his grandchildren, Alyssa Roca, Vito Roca, Gianna DiMartino, Jenna Roca, Marc DiMartino, Bobbi Roca, Matthew DiMartino, and his great-granddaughter, Vivienne Withers. In heaven, he will be greeted by his brother, Matthew Roca, sister, Crescenza Recchia, and his parents. Visitation and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
