In memory of
Jeffrey Wayne Pietrowski
1953-2021 Jeff Pietrowski, formerly of Durango Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on February, 11, 2021 from surgical complications stemming from COVID-19. Jeff was born in Santa Monica, California on April 21, 1953. He grew up In Whittier, California where he attended La Serna High School and later earned his B.A. degree at San Diego State. He had the best roommate which was his cousin Barbara Ann Pietrowski. He nurtured his compassion for disadvantaged children by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club in Whittier and had so much empathy for those underserved in the community. Jeff moved to Mammoth Lakes, California after college where he managed the family ski shop which enabled him to spend time outdoors doing the things he loved: skiing, hiking, and camping. He became an advocate for the Special Olympics organization due to his older brother being born with cerebral palsy and helped organize the Winter Special Olympics in Mammoth Lakes and later in Lake Havasu, Arizona. After meeting and marrying his wife, Rosemary, they eventually moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where they owned a sports shop overlooking the famous "London Bridge" for 12 years. Jeff served on the Parks and Recreation Board and was instrumental in many projects. His love of the mountains brought them to Durango in 1999 where he worked at Purgatory Resort. The highlight of one of his days came when singer Arlo Guthrie wandered in for coffee and he and Jeff had a long conversation about life. Jeff was encouraged to start his own business, JP Handyman after doing renovations on his home and neighbor's and it was a success for over 11 years. He was an active member of Saint Columbia Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, and helped form the Men's Group. He had many friends and was known for his joking and quick wit along with his big heart. A move to Arizona in 2018 brought them closer to family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jerri Pietrowski, stepmother, Virginia Pietrowski, brothers Joel and Jimmy Pietrowski. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years and best friend, Rosemary, family members, Greg Ostrander, Lisa Crawford (Craig), Laurie Maziek (Ostrander), grandsons Kyle Ostrander (Haley) Logan Ostrander, Bonnie and Jenna Pietrowski, cousins Barbara Ann Valdez, (Reuben) Bob Pietrowski, nephew and Godson Sean Valdez, Katrina Mosesso (Angelo), cousins Tom Wilmhurst, Margie Rickards, and Mary Schamber. He was especially close to his brothers-in-law, Dick Elewaut (Terry) and Father Tom Elewaut, Bob Elewaut (Lorraine), Marlou Elewaut, and nephews and nieces. A live stream Memorial Mass will be celebrated on March 6, 2021 at 12:00 PST at Mission San Buenaventura Mission Church, Ventura, California, www.sanbuenaventuramission.org . In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Yosemite Association or La Plata County Humane Society.
