Shirley Horowitz, 95 Shirley (nee' Sara) Horowitz of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11 at 95 years of age. She was born in Tottenville to Samuel and Yetta Flaxman. She was a graduate of Tottenville High School and married Nathan Horowitz, also of Staten Island. Shirley was civic minded. She volunteered at Staten Island Hospital and managed the gift shop in Temple B'Nai Jeshurun for many years. She excelled at figure skating and bowling and was a voracious reader. Her greatest joy was her family. She was predeceased by her husband Nathan, sister, Cele Cohen and brother, Abraham Flaxman. She is survived by her three children Allen Horowitz (wife Mary Malone) Diane Horowitz-Michaels, Leonard Horowitz (Lis), and grandsons Ian (Anna Chigas) and Jordan Horowitz. Many thanks to Aviva Senior Living in Sarasota. Because of Covid, a private graveside ceremony will be held. Donations in her memory can be made to Temple B'Nai Jeshurun, the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island or the UJA Federation of NY.
