James Hlavaty
James (Jim) Hlavaty was born on September 14, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Irene Hlavaty and died in Indio, CA on February 8, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 53+ years, Dalia (nee Valeika), and son, Mark. As a full time resident of Indio since 2013, Jim enjoyed life in the desert community. Jim worked at various firms in accounting management positions in the Chicago area: Peat, Marwick & Mitchell & Co, Beatrice Food Co., and Alberto Culver Co. In 1981, Albert Colver moved the family to Huntington Beach, CA so Jim could assume the Controllership of its Phillippe Handbag Co. subsidiary in L.A. Later, Jim was the Controller of Cole of CA, Controller of Knott's Berry Farm, VP of Finance for Gardenia Foods Co., and Controller and Administrative Manager of Kenwood USA Corp. In 2006, after 20 years of service, Jim formally retired from Kenwood and the family traveled during the next few years to sightsee and visit relatives in Brazil, France, and Lithuania. Jim was a graduate of the University of Illinois (BS in Accounting in 1963) and the University of Chicago (MBA in Business Admin in 1978) and was a licensed CPA in Illinois and California. From 1959 to 1963 Jim served in the Army Security Agency in Western Germany during the times of both the building of the Berlin Wall and the Cuban missile crisis. No services are planned and his ashes will be interred in St. Casimir's Lithuanian Cemetery in the Chicago area.
