Thomas M. Burns, 92 Owner of Pop's Towing Thomas M. Burns passed away on February 6th, 2021, at the age of 92. He was born Nov. 5, 1928 in Astoria, Queens, to Thomas and Josephine Burns, the oldest of four children. Dropping out of school at a young age, he joined the Navy when the call came. He met and married his wife Patricia (nee Long) in 1948. They had seven children. Tom, also known as "Pop," was a bus driver for a private bus company in Queens before owning The Sherri-Lee diner in High Falls, NY . Moving back to Staten Island, he worked for the Burns Security Agency (no relation) in Manhattan. Retiring from the agency, he bought a tow truck and operated Pop's Towing for over 10 years. His wife Patricia predeceased him in 2000, as did three of his children, Susan (1957), Kathleen Bauer (2016), and James Burns (2020). He is survived by his remaining children Thomas Burns (Leah), Faythe DeFazio (Samuel), Patricia Chellel (Ralph), Nancy Romeo (Thomas), 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
