Agnes L. Walls, 91, formerly of South Hamilton, died at her home at The Herrick House in Beverly on February 1, 2021. She was born September 8, 1929 in Freedom New Hampshire, a daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie (Day) Sargent. Following her education in the Freedom, NH schools through grade 8, she received a scholarship to attend school at Salem High School. She graduated from Salem High School in 1948. In Salem she first lived with and worked for the Snow family who operated a bakery in Salem. She then lived with and worked for the Gale family. The Reverend Gale was pastor of the Unitarian Church of Salem. Following graduation from high school Agnes worked as a secretary at the United Shoe Company in Beverly. Agnes married William (Bill) E. Walls on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948 at the Unitarian Church of Salem. She met Bill though her brother Merton Sargent. They were on the same ship while serving in the Navy and Merton encouraged them to write to one another. After his discharge, Bill traveled to Salem, from New Bethlehem, PA, to met Agnes in person. He decided to stay, got a job at Cherry Hill Farm in Beverly and they were married later the same year. In 1950 they purchased their home in Hamilton. Bill preceded her in death in 2015 and Agnes moved to The Herrick House in 2020. Agnes was an artist and was a long time member of the Guild of Beverly Artists. She may be remembered most from her many hand painted crafts sold at the Christmas Fair at Lynch Park. Most of her paintings have been kept in the possession of her family. Agnes worked part time at the Star Market in Beverly for many years and was a long time member of the Hamilton- Wenham Mother's Club. She is survived by three children, Geraldine (Walls) Botka and her husband Gregg, Donald Walls and Linda Walls; three grandchildren, Stephanie (St. Peter) Gouker, Brad St. Peter and Hattie (Walls) DeRaps; four great grandchildren, Sidney St. Peter, William (Will) St. Peter, Delia Gouker and Ethan DeRaps: a sister in law, Lucille (Walls) Procious and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, preceding her in death were a sister Margaret and brothers Merton, Linville, and Richard, all of Freedom, New Hampshire. Margaret and Richard died as infants. She was also preceded in death by her daughter in law Sandy Walls. Per the request of the deceased there will be no services. A later burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom, NH. Her family would like to thank The Herrick House for their wonderful care, help and support.
