In memory of
Miriam Levine Miriam Levine, nee Brody, the youngest child of immigrants Moses Brody and Ida Sadofsky, died on January 24, 2021 at age 92. Miriam was born in Brooklyn NY on October 20, 1928. A graduate of Midwood High School, Miriam married Morton "Morty" Levine in 1949, residing in Brooklyn, Matawan NJ, Boynton Beach FL, and Philadelphia PA. A homemaker in her children's early years, Miriam later worked in an administrative capacity for the IT Department of Monmouth County NJ. The through-lines of Miriam's life were clear. She loved and was extremely proud of her family; engaged with friends; and gave generously of her food, sweets, and opinions. Miriam proved her resilience in Boynton Beach, FL to which she and Morty retired. They fashioned a new life there, with a deep circle of friends, receiving awards for volunteer work at JFK Hospital. When Morty was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease, Miriam insisted on caregiving for him at home – beyond reasonable expectation – and did so until his death in 2009. Miriam soldiered on with friends, playing mah jong, receiving family, working her computer, and managing her house and finances until July 2017, when she moved to Philadelphia to be closer to family. Miriam is survived by her children, Linda S. Levine of Arlington VA and Ronald and Emily Squires Levine of Philadelphia PA; her grandchildren, Philip H. Levine of Los Angeles CA and Anna Squires Levine and Eytan Kurshan of Brooklyn NY; and her great grandson, Kai Squires Kurshan. We take from her life a legacy of family, generosity, concern, and grit. Contributions may be made to the immigration aid society, HIAS-Pennsylvania, 600 Chestnut St Suite 500B, Philadelphia, PA 19106 .
