In memory of
James Harold Franke
James Harold Franke, 78, went to be with his heavenly father on his birthday on February 1, 2021. He lived an incredible life surrounded by his family and friends, which he held to the highest regard. Jim was an extraordinary man and he lived for the time spent with his family. Jim had the biggest heart, and he inspired and touched so many lives throughout his lifetime. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he knew and loved. Jim will be deeply missed and remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Jim was born on February 1, 1943 in Cincinnati, OH to the parents of William and Charlotte Franke. As a young man, he enjoyed playing baseball, competing in gymnastics and playing in a rock-n-roll band. His passion for music set the rhythm of his life and he could be heard singing in the Dantzler Memorial First United Methodist Church Choir and into the evenings at home singing, playing his guitar and dancing with his family. When he was not fishing or duck hunting with his son, Jim was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He proudly served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS where he met the love of his life Billie Franke (Smith). Together, they shared the deepest of love which was instilled in their 4 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years of his life. Jim spent his career as an Executive Manager for 28 years with Sears Roebuck & Company, where he excelled to the highest levels and achieved many great successes. Jim is preceded in death by his only son, James Harold Franke, Jr. (Jimmy), his granddaughter, Jennifer Carol Burke, his parents, Harold and Charlotte Franke, in-laws, Curren and Eula V. McDuffee, brother-in law, Ray McDuffee, sisters-in-law, Ann Hover, Bertie Mae McDuffee, Debbie McDuffee, and nephew, Timothy McDuffee. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Billie Franke (Smith); his loving brother, Neil Franke; three children, Jeannie Nesmith (Scott), Julie Franke-Cobb (Glenn), and Jodi Franke-Young (Bryan); grandchildren, Jamie Watson, Jimmy Franke III, Lauren Trussell (John), Sarah Franke, Adalyn Young and Ryleigh Young; 7 great grandchildren; along with numerous extended family members and friends, all of which he loved so dearly. A visitation will be held for Mr. Franke on Thursday, February 4, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 with Bro. Wendell Stork officiating. The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Orange Grove Cemetery, with Glenn Cobb, Scott Nesmith, Bryan Young, Wesley Hover, John Trussell and Kevin Hudson serving as pallbearers.
