In memory of
Edward Donald Walsh
Edward Donald Walsh, 86 years young, passed from this life onto the next on January 22, 2021. Edward loved God, his family and his country. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Dorothy L. Walsh (Norton) for 63 years. Edward and Dorothy lived a life of faith and devotion, lovingly raising six above-average children – Laura Walsh of Kinderhook and Englewood, NJ (Paul L. Greer, Jr.), Jennifer Harold of Virginia Beach (John Harold), Allison Walsh-Sartini of Acton, MA (Thomas Sartini); Christopher Walsh of Rotterdam, NY; Matthew Walsh of Woodbridge, VA; Mary Walsh Pacifico of Rotterdam ( Anthony Pacifico). Edward was also grandfather to Sean Harold of Naples, Italy; Brendan Harold, Virginia Beach; Sarah Harold, San Diego, CA; Jack and Colin Sartini, Acton, MA; Aidan and Ian Pacifico Rotterdam, NY. Edward was the son of the late Edmund and Jane Walsh Watervleit, NY, and brother of late Jane Walsh Cornell, Clifton Park, NY. Edward was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Troy, NY and Siena College where he earned a BA in Economics and was voted, "Best Dressed", an honor that he lived up to his entire life. Edward served in the Army Reserves as First Lieutenant, Artillery & Guided Missile Center, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. A life-long educator, Edward enjoyed teaching and later earned a Masters of Education degree from SUNY Oneonta, NY, and Certification in School Administration. Edward returned to his hometown of Watervliet, NY to be the Principal of School One and later Assistant Superintendent for Watervliet City Schools, where he retired after 30 years of service. He later consulted for Association of School Board Organization (ASBO). He and Dorothy enjoyed their retirement, traveling to religious pilgrimages in Ireland, Italy, France, Israel, Portugal, Poland and Majegori. They were also actively involved in parish life at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectady. In addition, both Edward and Dorothy were daily communicants at St. Francis Chapel, Colonie, NY, where congregants made sure to reserve their favorite pew. Edward was modest, self-deprecating and had a quick wit. He was loved by his family, friends and neighbors. It was not unusual for strangers to approach him out of the blue and tell him their life stories. He often remarked that he must look like a good listener. It was fortunate that he passed quietly in his own home and left this world with a classic "Irish Goodbye." A visitation will be held at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady on Tuesday 3-6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady on Wednesday at 10 am. Entombment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery Community Mausoleum, Menands. Memorial contributions may to be sent to Saint Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
