Gloria Hefferan
Hefferan, Gloria Gloria J. Hefferan, age 92, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on January 11, 2021. Gloria grew up in Chicago, Illinois and met the love of her life, Daniel (Dan), at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the cherished and beloved Sweet Pea to her Sweetheart, to whom she was married for nearly 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, four of their twelve children, William, Timothy, Craig and Jennifer, grandchild, Rebecca Smith, her sisters, Margaret Schilling and Juliette Cowdin and her brother Albert Shellander. She is survived by her children, Daniel J., Mary, Margaret (Ken), Thomas (Brigitte), Michele (Bruce), Laura, Colleen (Brad), Elizabeth (Steve), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Hefferan and Rosemarie Hines, brother-in-law Hugh Cowdin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her vitality and adventurous spirit, hard work, perseverance, intelligence, generosity, grace and elegance. Gloria was a class act and she always put her family first. Gloria was an incomparable homemaker and cook, an inspiring and motivating educator, an accomplished athlete and a talented artist. By piling their family into the station wagon and sleeping in their 4-room tent during their annual camping trips throughout the U.S. and Canada, Gloria and Dan gave their family the appreciation of nature's beauty. Gloria was a stickler for the proper use of grammar. She was a respected and admired teacher at West Catholic High School and an expert and trusted communications coach at Consumers Power Company where she mentored engineers in their communications skills. Gloria had an eye for detail and proficiently managed countless projects most would find daunting. Gloria held herself and her family to the highest standards of excellence and integrity and she embodied these traits through her actions every day. Gloria was a lifelong learner, mentally sharp, persistent in her pursuits and active to the end. Gloria had a deep and abiding faith in God and our Blessed Mother, which sustained her throughout her life. A private Mass of Christian Burial and Rite of Committal have taken place. The family will celebrate Gloria's life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Alphonsus Parish Foundation ( https://www.stalphonsusgr.org/parish-foundation ) in the name of Gloria Hefferan.
