Covington, George Muskegon Mr. George E. Covington, age 84, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Muskegon, MI. He was born on December 15, 1936 to his loving mother, Jesse Sims and had resided in the Muskegon area for many years before moving to Portland, Mi for 16 years George had worked as a General Manager at Plumbs Grocery Store for more than 25 years and then retired after several years from Jiffy Lube. He was currently a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lake Odessa, MI. George enjoyed scrapping, cutting firewood, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and he could often be found at Ernie's Car Lot running errands. On February 2, 1957, he married Alice Herlein, and to this union they were blessed with 4 children, Kenneth (Oralia) Covington of N. Muskegon, Keith (Debra) Covington of N. Muskegon, Kay (Timothy) Goodemoot of Portland, MI, and Karen (Louis) Glockzin of Jenison; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great grandchild; 1 brother, Darryl Sims, special cousins: Jerry Daniels, Tommy Wofford, Larry Jo Wofford, Harry Mitchell; special friend, Thelma Curtis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. George was preceded in death by his wife Alice Covington, his mother Jessie Covington, brother Charles Sims; sister, Shirley Devrou; and grandson, Keith Covington, Jr. A VISITATION for George will be held from 11AM-1PM Thursday, January 28, 2021 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, (231) 726-5210. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral home is allowed 25 guests in the building at a time. As people pay their respects to the family and exit the building, more guests will be allowed in. Masks will be required. A PRIVATE SERVICE will follow. BURIAL will take place in Sunrise Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Michigan and Central United Methodist Church.
