Samuel E LoPresto
Samuel E. LoPresto, age 76, of Charlevoix, MI, formerly of East Lansing, MI and Hillsdale, MI, passed away peacefully in his home in the loving care of his wife of 37 years, Charlotte (Wilson) Koger, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Sam and Charlotte were married on September 17, 1983 in East Lansing, MI and created a family including Sam's surviving children, Christina (Tom) Weeks of Dunwoody, Georgia and Scott LoPresto of Elgin, Illinois and his two step-daughters, Christie Ekern of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Dayna Neumann of Louisville, Kentucky. Sam was born on November 8, 1944 in Detroit to Ignatius Joseph and Ruth Maxine (Camp) LoPresto. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1962 and he received his Bachelors Degree in 1967 and his Master Degree in 1969, both in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan. From 1978-1997, he served the Holt Public Schools as Elementary and Middle School Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. As a lifelong educator, Sam was a member of the Michigan Association of School Administrators, Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association, National Association of Elementary School Principals and the University of Michigan School of Education Alumni Society. Sam was a member of the South Lansing-Holt Rotary Club, DARE Advisory Committee and a GENESIS board member. Sam is survived by his extended family including his nine grandchildren, Cameron Weeks, Mason Weeks, Fletcher Ekern, Wilson Ekern, Virginia Ekern, Caroline Ekern, Annabelle Ekern, Henry Neumann, Charlotte Neumann and two siblings, Terry (Penny) LoPresto of Anderson, South Carolina, and Joetta (Larry) Benjamin of Reading, MI. Private family graveside services for Sam LoPresto will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery in Hillsdale. Friends and family are invited to view a live webcast of the service on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM by visiting the tribute wall on Sam's obituary page at www.eaglefunerahomes.com. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Evans Scholar Association.
