Helen F. (Newton) Vaughn
Helen F. Newton Vaughn, 87, died on Jan. 11, 2021, surrounded by her family. She graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1950 at Campbellsville High School. Later that year, she married John William "Bill" Vaughn, and they remained married for 55 years. The couple had two sons, Jeffery Alan and John David. She was employed at Fruit of the Loom until her retirement. During her time there, she achieved assistant vice president and helped install the company's GED program to help those who worked with her receive high school diplomas. She was the first female president of the Campbellsville Chamber of Commerce and worked with the Taylor County Public Library, serving on its board for many years. She joined the Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1951, where she played piano and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was also a leader in their women's organization. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Virginia "Ginny" Newton; her husband, John Vaughn; a brother, Garnett Newton and her son, Jeff Vaughn. She is survived by a brother, Willard (Marian) Newton; her son, John (Dawn) Vaughn, as well as two grandchildren, Laci Jo and Ruby Vaughn; three step-grandchildren: Cody, Tara and Garrett Rose; three great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Gracie and Brantley, and she will be sorely missed by her special friend, Eugene Mosz. Her funeral service was held on Jan. 16 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Rev. Earl West. Burial followed in Brookside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
