James L. Armstrong, Jr. Churchville - James L. "Stink" Armstrong, Jr., 53, of 63 Pinewood Lane died Sunday (January 17, 2021) in Augusta Health. Born June 14, 1967 in Staunton, he was the son of Carol Ann "Tootie" (Graham) Armstrong-Pappalardo of West Augusta and the late James L. "Toots" Armstrong. James was a 1985 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School, and had been employed by Western State Hospital for 36 years. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting mountain firewood, and working on his vehicles. He treasured time spent with family, especially his dear children and grandchildren. He is survived by his mother and his stepfather of 26 years, Joe Pappalardo of West Augusta; a son, James "J.T." Armstrong III, two daughters, Stephanie Armstrong DeVore and Brittany Williams; a special cousin, Willy Campbell, who was like a brother; and four grandchildren, Dixie Brydge, Aviva DeVore, Ezekiel Armstrong, and Renemsee Williams; partner Tina Downey Propst and her daughter Gracie Stephenson; and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor George Etling. Burial will follow in West Augusta Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Raymond, Willy and William Campbell, Larry and Jeff Hamilton, and Joey Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Social-distancing and mask-wearing protocols will be observed at all events, according to current COVID-19 guidelines. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Bear Funeral Home is serving the family.
