Mary-Lou Meiners
Mary Louise Meiners, age 92, died December 18, 2020, at the Juneau Pioneer Home. She was born to Ira and Florence Wilkinson, January 4, 1928, in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Saint Teresa's Academy in 1945 and from Avila College in 1949. She married Herman Meiners in 1951. They moved to Fairbanks, AK, in 1958, and Juneau in 1964. Mary Lou was a hard worker. She was a kindergarten teacher and then served as Director for the State of Alaska Division of Elections. Volunteering in the community was important to Mary Lou. She served as President of the Juneau Education Association, Alaska Delegate at the Democratic National Convention, and numerous roles at the Cathedral of the Nativity. In 2013 she was crowned Queen Regent of Pioneers of Alaska - Juneau Igloo 6. She enjoyed coordinating Red Hat Lady teas, bridge parties, senior events, serving as a museum docent, and greeting visitors with the Juneau Convention and Visitor's Association. Mary Lou had a feisty spirit, enjoyed playing pull tabs, gambling in Las Vegas, and adventures in Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tom, sister Georgeanne, and husband Herman. She is survived by children Mac (Donna), Dennis (Lisa), Melanie White (Larry), Dave (Mari), and Andy (Amy Jo); grandchildren Kevin, Don, Tom (Shea) Meiners, Kyle (Amy) White, Maggie, Gracie (Mark), and Abby Meiners. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Catholic Community Services, 1803 Glacier Highway, Juneau, 99801. The family would like to recognize the outstanding care Mary Lou received at the Juneau Pioneer Home.
