In memory of
Janet Connelly
Janet J. Connelly, 82, passed away on January 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Janet was a twin to her sister Joyce. They were born in Ludlow Massachusetts on June 24, 1938, to the late Frederick and Jeannette (Brooks) White. Janet’s early life included enlisting as a cadet with the Civil Air Patrol. Janet and her sister Joyce had many fond memories of this experience, including establishing lifelong friendships with Ethel St. Onge and Sally Napuunoa. One of their fun activities was roller skating at the Rialto in Springfield. This is where Janet met her future husband and love of her life, Dave. Both Dave and Janet shared a love of travel and exploration, adventuring across the US as a young couple. In their later years they enjoyed tinkering and cruising in their antique cars. Janet was an avid bowler at Riverdale Lanes where she played in a league. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for her 2 boys. Janet was always available to support her sons and protected them like a mother wolf to her cubs. Janet’s beloved husband Dave passed away suddenly in 1984, which had a tremendous impact on all of our lives. Janet never fully recovered from that loss but she did forge on as a strong mother. Janet’s resourcefulness, fortitude, survival skills, and the love of her boys, carried her through her final journeys in life. Janet’s work history started at Carando Foods in Springfield where she prepared sausages and cured meats. In her later years she served as a matron with the Longmeadow Police department. Janet had an interest in town politics and was always willing to voice her colorful opinions. Janet will be remembered by her friends and neighbors as helpful and caring. She was the “fixer” of anything broken, from non-starting cars, finicky snowblowers, to your best friend’s bike. Besides her parents, husband, and twin sister Joyce, Janet was predeceased by her brothers Fred, Ronald, and Donald White. To cherish her memory, she leaves her sons Timothy D. Connelly and his wife Denise of Charlestown, RI and James F. Connelly and her beloved grandson Ryan Connelly of Longmeadow Mass. Funeral services will be private for the family and have been entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be considered in the summer when the pandemic threat subsides. Janet’s love of animals can be memorialized with a contribution to Dakin Humane Society, Springfield Mass, PO Box 6307, 01101.
