Sterling King
Sterling King, 88, a longtime resident of Wauseon, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. Sterling was born to the late Christian and Olga King on Sept. 30, 1932. He married Joan Norton, his wife of over 60 years, and she survives. He was a graduate of Wauseon High School, Bowling Green State University, and Ohio State University College of Optometry. While in school, he marched in both the Bowling Green and Ohio State bands and never missed an Alumni Band game until 2010. After graduating from college, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. After this he set up his business in Archbold, where he practiced optometry until 1994. His favorite pasttime was being a railroader. He owned several streetcars and a caboose, which were located near Delta. He also wrote a book about the Toledo and Indiana Railway which sold thousands of copies. He was a devoted member of Wauseon First Christian Church all his life. Sterling was also very active in the various branches of Free and Accepted Masons. He is also survived by two sons, Christian and Jeffrey. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at Swanton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m . Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p. m.. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Wauseon Lodge no 349 Free and Accepted Masons. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com .
